Ash to Kings Trail

Ash to Kings Trail

Description:

The Ash to Kings Trail was completed in August 2015. It is a seven-mile single-track, non-motorized trail linking Ash Canyon Road on the north end and Kings Canyon Road on the south end.

The trail was constructed by volunteers, led by Muscle Powered. Please contact them about volunteering on continued trail maintenance here and throughout Carson City. Individuals and/or groups (scout groups, company or corporate groups, families and friends) are all welcome.

More Difficult. This trail has an average grad of 6% with a max grade of 15%

Type of Trail:

Dirt, single track. Award-winning trail, great views, part of the trail travels through Jeffery pine forest. Connects with Lincoln Bypass on south end.

Ash Canyon Road

Ash Canyon Road

Description:

Ash Canyon Road provides the only motorized access into the Carson Range in the Ash Canyon area. Motorized access ends after 4.5 miles at the State Park boundary where there is a small parking area and a half-mile walk to Hobart Reservoir.

Go Slow, Use Caution

This is a narrow, one-lane road, with tight turns, steep grades, dangerous drop-offs, and few pull-outs. Watch for pedestrians and bicycles

Rain or snow can cause dangerous conditions and wash-outs.

Closures:

Ash Canyon Road is maintained by the Carson City Parks, Recreation & Open Space Department. It is typically open from Memorial Day through October.

Bob's Trail

Bob's Trail

Bob's Trail consist of a series of segments to help orient non-motorized users along the 3-mile segment. Reference the West Side Trails Map to identify specific segments.

Description:

Built by Muscled Powered at the beginning of 2018, Bob's Trail was named in honor of Robert "Bob" Crowell who was an advocate for trails and Open Space. Currently there are two segments of this trail with future plans to connect.

Dirt, single track. Access from Ash Canyon water tanks, foothill drive, and the sound end of Murphy Drive behind Western Nevada College.

Seven Steps Trail

Seven Steps

Description:

Attributed to the Miles Davis tune "Seven Steps to Heaven", the Seven Steps Trail connects the Vicee Rim Trail to Bob's Trail.

Type of Trail:

Dirt/Rock, single track. Access from Ash Canyon water tanks, foothill drive, and the south end of Murphy Drive behind Western Nevada College.

Potash Trail

Postal Trail

Description:

Named after Jeff Potter, Carson City trail advocate/designer/builder extraordinaire, who worked for the U.S. Postal Service, the Postal Trail connects the Ash Canyon water tanks with the Ash Canyon Trail System.

Difficulty:

Easy. This trail has an average grad of 5% with a max grad of 6%

Type of Trail:

Dirt, single track. Access from Ash Canyon water tanks.

Eagle View Trail

Eagle View Trail

Description:

Built by Muscle Powered in 2019, the Eagle View Trail circles around the "knob" of Eagle View Open Space with great views and steep side slopes.

More Difficult. This trail has an average grad of 9% with a max grad of 17%

Type of Trail:

Dirt/rock single track. Access at Ash Canyon water tanks, Foothill Drive, and the south end of Murphy Drive behind Western Nevada College.

Vicee Rim Trail

Vicee Rim Trail

Description:

Follows south rim above Vicee Canyon.

Length:

1.3 miles.

Difficulty:

Easier. This trail has an average grad of 3% with a max grade of 7%

Type of Trail:

Dirt, single track. Access is available from Ash Canyon water tanks, Foothill Drive, and the south end of Murphy Drive behind Western Nevada College.

Four Day Trail

Four Day Trail

Description:

Named after the original fireman who built the trail with the license plate "Four Day", the Four Day Trail is a stacked loop trail just below the Evidence Trail.

0.6 of a mile.

Evidence Trail

Description:

Named after the Thelonious Monk tune "Evidence", the Evidence Trail is a staked loop trail above the Four Day Trail.

Length:

1 mile.

Creek Trail

Creek Trail

Description:

Originally a social trail, the Creek Trail was brought to fruition by Jeff Potter and friends. The Creek Trail follows Ash Creek from the Ash-to-Kings Trail. Please use caution as this trail has rocks, jumps, and drop-offs.

0.5 miles.

Difficulty:

More Difficult. This trail has an average grad of 4% with a max grad of 20%
